Gleeman Truck Parts was founded by the late Terry Gleeson in the early 1950s when he began his small parts business with the help of his father-in-law Stan Manton. At the time, they were operating out of Stan's garage behind his house in Kogarah in the southern Sydney suburbs. Before that, Terry, driven by his experience with Mack trucks and his awareness of the constant shortage of Mack spare parts, had bought a used EQ series Mack and wrecked it in the driveway of his parents' home at Hurstville. The success of this venture became the catalyst for the formation of the new company. The business was named T. Gleeson and Manton Pty. Ltd., which later became Gleeman Pty. Ltd.
Pressure from the local council necessitated moving from Kogarah and prompted the purchase of a timber yard in Bath Rd Sutherland. The larger premises provided the opportunity for expansion and the business added truck and crawler tractor wrecking to its portfolio. At the time, Mack truck parts were the primary source of business, mainly because of the many Mack trucks left in Australia after the 2nd world war. The most common being the legendary model's NR and EH.
In the early sixties, as the company grew, it opened a branch in Nambucca Heads on the NSW north coast to cater for the many Mack trucks used in the logging and timber industry around the Bellingen, Thora, Dorrigo, and Coffs Harbour areas. Both Mack and Diamond T trucks were also sold from the branch at the time before the dealership got sold to Volvo Trucks.
Expansion in the early seventies saw the construction of a new warehouse facility at Chipping Norton in Sydney's West. Meanwhile, the company continued to grow, importing parts worldwide to suit heavy-duty American trucks of various makes.
In 2001, the company was purchased by the SMP GROUP based in Shepparton in Victoria to add heavy truck spare parts to their current business of construction equipment. In parallel, Gleeman Truck Parts continued to grow adding branches in Brisbane's North and South, Townsville, and Perth.
In 2006, the SMP group extended its truck and trailer part offering to Victoria by acquiring Coburg Truck Parts, with three branches in Campbellfield, Sunshine West, and Pakenham.
In Parallel, in 2006, the SMP Group also acquired PartsPeek a leading wholesaler specialised in parts for Japanese trucks of all makes. This strategic acquisition was made to respond to the increase of Japanese truck registrations in the Australian Market.
In 2020 Gleeman, Coburg, and PartsPeek joined forces and are now operating as one united business under the new trading name of Truckzone. Truckzone is now a leading retailer and distributor of Aftermarket and Original Equipment parts and accessories for trucks and trailers in Australia.
